Camp Candy Cap is twelve acres of quiet coastal forest, and the best thing about it is the people who keep coming back. The club is how we look after them, and it’s how you book a night here.
Why a club
Some places just get under your skin.
Some people come once. Some people come once and start planning the next one before they’ve packed the car, and the club is for the second sort. Joining is free, it’s how you book a campsite here, and the further in you come, the more of the place is yours.
The tribe
There’s one fire and one long table, so everybody ends up at both. The people you meet here in November you’ll run into again in March, and that’s rather the point of the whole thing.
Chits in the bank
Chits are our own camp money, and you’ll pick them up on everything you do here. Elders and Chiefs get a month’s worth every month, and they never expire, so let them pile up for the long weekend you’ve been meaning to take.
The land rewards familiarity
The mushrooms fruit differently every year and the fog rearranges the place from one week to the next, so the more often you’re here the more of it you see. The lowest tides come in winter and spring, and knowing when to be standing on the rocks is most of it.
The days held for members
The guided days are open to everybody, but some of the best nights and events are for the tribe alone, and on everything that sells out, you book first.
Membership
Three ways in
Everyone starts here. You’ll join as a Scout on the way to your first night, with the same account you’ll use to book, spend chits and sign in when you arrive.
- 200 chits when you join, a little something to start with
- Earn a chit on every dollar you spend on camping, goods and the days we lead ourselves, and half a chit a dollar on the days our friends lead and on our special weekends
- 100 chits at the gate, every visit, for every adult who signs in
- Book three months ahead
- First to hear when a trip is about to sell out
Or $500 for the year. Everything a Scout gets, and a good deal more.
- 1,500 chits a month. That’s $75 of camp, every month, yours to keep or spend, and they build up, so save them for a long weekend with the people you love
- A bonus month every year: 1,500 chits, a thirteenth month on us, each year you stay. Pay for the year up front and it lands the day you join
- Earn 1.5 chits on every dollar
- Your price, held. A weeknight at Yellowfoot, Reishi, Hedgehog or Lobster costs you the chits it cost the day you joined, for as long as you’re a member
- Camp Catch n Cook, the Elders’ weekend and the days held for members
- Book six months ahead, three months before anybody else, so the summer weekends are yours
- Come for the day, with a guest. No booking needed: walk to the water, sit by the fire, drive home
- A Wilderfolk shirt, yours with your third month
Or $1,500 for the year. Everything an Elder gets, for the one who brings the whole crew.
- 4,500 chits a month. That’s $225 of camp, every month: a night at Lobster for four, our biggest site in its own round meadow, and a night for two besides
- A bonus month every year: 4,500 chits, a thirteenth month on us, each year you stay, and the day you join if you pay for the year
- Earn 2 chits on every dollar
- First refusal on what sells out, from the 4×4 ATV day at Usal to anything with more people who want in than seats
- The Chiefs’ weekend once a season, and the Fourth of July weekend at camp is Chiefs only
- Come for the day, with five friends. Six of you through the gate on your word
- Your name on the Signpost, carved at camp with the others who keep coming back
Elder and Chief renew on their own, monthly or yearly, until you cancel, and you can cancel any time before a renewal. The chits you already have stay yours to spend. You can move up whenever you like, and your chits come with you.
Chits
Chits are our own money
Twenty of them make a dollar, so a chit is five cents, and you spend them at checkout on a night here, a guided day, firewood, or anything in the store. You can pay a whole booking in chits, or part of it and the rest by card. They never expire, so let them pile up and take the whole family somewhere beautiful.

Holiday weekends cost more still, and we set those rates each season. The days our friends lead are paid in cash on their side, so they cost 30 chits to the dollar instead of 20.
Earning
You’ll pick them up just by being here
Every dollar you spend with us earns chits: 1 as a Scout, 1.5 as an Elder, 2 as a Chief, and half that on the days our friends lead and on our special weekends. Every adult who signs in at the gate picks up 100, every visit. When someone you’ve invited joins, you both get 100. And as an Elder or a Chief, a month’s chits land the day each payment goes through, with a bonus month on every anniversary.

The permanent things
Your mark on the land
The Signpost stands in the meadow, covered in wooden signs pointing off in every direction, each one carved with a Chief’s name, their hometown, and how many miles away it is. It’s the record of the people who kept coming back, and your sign points home.
First pick
The days the ocean decides
The intertidal mornings only run at a low tide, so the ocean sets that calendar rather than we do. Some of the best of them land in the middle of winter, when the lowest tides of the year come in and the coast is at its most beautiful and least crowded. The tribe hears about those dates first, and on whatever fills up on its own, the 4×4 ATV out through the Usal forest that seats five, or Camp Catch n Cook, which sold out the first time we ran it, Chiefs get first refusal and Elders come next.
What the tribe agrees to
Everyone here is welcome exactly as they are
This is an inclusive property. We welcome people of every race, gender, age, background, and belief. When you join, you’ll agree to treat every other guest with warmth and respect, whoever they are and whoever they love, to keep the quiet after dark, and to pack out what you pack in. Anyone who makes another guest feel unwelcome or unsafe will be asked to leave, and that’s the whole of it.

The fine print, in plain English
Chits never expire
Spend them whenever you like, on camping, on the guided days, or on anything in the store. Let them pile up if you want to; they keep.
They’re yours and nobody else’s
Chits can’t be turned into cash, given away, sold or traded, and neither can a membership. A night paid in chits is a night you’re here for, and we’ll ask at the gate.
If you cancel
The chits you already have stay spendable, for as long as you like. Nothing new lands after your membership ends.
Weekends and holidays
Friday and Saturday nights cost more chits than a weeknight, and holiday weekends cost more still. We set those rates each season, and members hear first.
Your held price
An Elder’s or a Chief’s weeknight chit price at the campsites open the day they joined stays where it was, for as long as they’re a member. New campsites, weekend and holiday rates, extra people, firewood, guided days and goods are priced each season.
Renewal
Elder and Chief renew monthly or yearly until you tell us to stop. Cancel any time before a renewal. Membership chits land the day each payment goes through, and your bonus month on each anniversary, or the day you join if you’ve paid for the year.
